Problems  Probable causes   Solutions
Noisy operation  Dry spindle  Remove the spindle and lubricate
 Broken bearing  Replace the bearing
Motor bolts loose  Tighten the screws
 Belts loose  Pull the bells
Excessive wobbling ( accentric rotation) of the spindle  Loose spindle  Tighten the spindle
Worn spindle shaft or bearings  Replace the shaft or the bearing
 Broken spindle  replace the spindle
The motor will not start  Power supply  check the mains power supply
Motor connection  check the motor connection
Connections of the switches  check the switch connections
Burnt motor windings  Replace the motor
 Broken switch  Replace the switch
The tip is jammed in the workpiece  Excessive pressure on the feed hand-wheel  Apply less pressure
 Loose tip  Tighten the tip
Speed is too fast  Change the speed
The tip is burning or smoking  Incorrect speed. Revolutions per minute  See table speed
Shavings will not discharge  Clean the tip
Tip is worn or does not cut the material well  Check the sharpness and taper
 Need lubrication  Lubricate while drilling
Incorrect feeding pressure  Apply less pressure
The tip vibrates, the hole is not round  The tip was sharpened of centre  Sharpen the tip correctly
 Bent tip  Replace the tip
The temperature of the spindle holder is too high  Insufficient lubrication  Lubricate the spindle holder
The spindle will not stick to the sleeve  Dirt. Grease or oil in the morse taper  Use detergents ( alcohol, etc,) to clean the conical part of the spindle
